Get Dressed & Show Up

~~~Friday night was my first high school reunion I could attend. All the ones before I lived too far away or I didn’t know about. Due to the Navy, we moved around so much. So, I was really excited. Normally for anything in the evening I would rest during the day and slowly get ready. This time it didn’t go like that. 

~~~I had two important doctor’s appointments that could not be cancelled. Gracefully, I received the injections I needed. I had a few errands to run and then went home. But, by now I am completely exhausted and in pain. I text my childhood friend and tell her I have to take a nap and I am going to be late, possibly really late. The steriods for my flare this time do not seem to be working other than to give me a moon pie face. 

~~~I woke up. I started trying to straighten my hair which half way through turned out to be disastrous because of the stiffness in the joints of my fingers. I’m a girlie girl. I like to look nice when I go out but I was going to have to succumb to the fact that there was going to be no natural glam look tonight. 

~~~I threw something on and with the crazy hair, the moon pie face, and the stiff painful joints I said screw it and showed up. I may not have looked my best or felt my best but guess what? I had a great time! For me, the moral to this story was just trying the best I could to be there and enjoying the moment. Siezing the shelf life I had that evening with old friends. Sharing some laughs. Letting go of stress and worries even if for a tiny bit. 

~~~I would say embrace life whenever it is possible because a Lupus life will always be challenging and hard. Smile whenever it is  possible because there will be plenty of sad and difficult times to come.
